Indonesian Language Enthusiasts in Singapore Sit for the Indonesian Language Proficiency Try-out Test (UKBI)

Singapore (30 July 2015) – Today, both native speakers and non-native speakers of Indonesian language gathered at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore to sit for the try-out of Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI).

The event was first to be conducted outside Indonesia. Present at the event was Mr Ridwan Hassan, Deputy Chief of Mission at Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. “This event marks the first significant step of Indonesian language to be officially tested outside Indonesia. There will be more steps ahead to climb”, he said during the opening.

This try-out was conducted by officials from the Standardization and Conservation of Language Agency Indonesia, in collaboration with Learn Indonesian Asia (LIA) and the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. The purpose of this try-out was to raise awareness for the existence of UKBI and to prepare candidates for the actual test.

Ms Endina Widartama, the director of LIA said, “LIA is honored to be part of this significant joint effort to bring UKBI internationally. We will collaborate again with Indonesian Embassy to hold similar event in November and the real test in quarter 1 of 2016”.

Furthermore, Ms Meity Qodratillah, the Head of Department, Standardization and Conservation of Language Agency Indonesia commented, “The Language Agency is delighted to have UKBI done outside Indonesia. We sincerely hope that other countries will follow suit”.
